Tallahassee, FL – UR2.Global – A Psycho-Spiritual Arts Project names internationally renowned two-time Grammy Nominated A cappella Group - Sweet Honey In The Rock as the 2020 International Honorary Artist-in-Residence for its 5th Annual UR2.Global Artist Challenge. The honorary artists receive the distinction of having the “international artist challenge” named in their honor, to help motivate performing artists from around the world to assist the not-for-profit arts organization in its humanitarian effort to uplift the self-esteem of humanity, by creating original works that are showcased on the site for daily inspiration. As such, the multi-cultural arts organization proudly invites singer-songwriters from all around the world to participate in the “2020 UR2.Global Sweet Honey In The Rock Artist Challenge.”

Sweet Honey In The Rock (SHIR) was selected out the many applicants for the year-long residency that officially begins March 19, 2020 because of their socially conscious lyrics and legacy that spans four decades of a commitment to uplift the African-American community. The group remains among the most vibrant, versatile and ever relevant musical collectives in music today, having performed in many of the world’s most prestigious venues (including 32 separate occasions at Carnegie Hall) on almost every continent for royal command concerts, festivals, and for world leaders such as Former President Barack Obama at the White House and the memorial for Former President Nelson Mandela. The group has produced 24 albums and is currently touring with their latest album #LoveInEvolution (released on Appleseed Recordings, in partnership with the group’s own She Rocks-5 label and distributed by Entertainment One). The members (pictured above) currently consists of Christie Dashiell, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Carol Maillard, Barbara Hunt, Aisha Kahlil, Rochelle Rice, Louise Robinson, and featured musician Romeir Mendez, along with sound engineer Kyle Homestead and road manager Katea Stitt. This female a cappella vocal group has created positive, loving music that matters as it pertains to spiritual fortification, and consistently taken an activist stance toward making this planet a better place for all in which to live.

Creative Supervisor for Sweet Honey In The Rock - Carol Maillard stated “It is a phenomenal honor for SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK® to be the 2020 Honorary Artist-in-Residence. Encouraging self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of well-being and belonging in this world is so important to every individual. Our spirits are enlivened by the creative arts and strengthened through cultural expression. We are honored to partner with the UR2.Global Arts Project.”

UR2.Global President – Amelia Kemp, Ph.D., LMHC, a licensed psychotherapist, non-secular doctor of metaphysical theology, author, and singer-songwriter, co-founded the organization to blend the creative arts with the healing arts to assist mankind in tapping into its inherent worth. Dr. Kemp stated, “Sweet Honey In The Rock’s work resonates on both a musical and spiritual level with our theme that everyone is an equal, important and worthy soul and does not have to be rich or famous to contribute to this world society. This is why self-esteem matters so much because it determines how one feels about themselves at their core, their value, self-worth, and self-acceptance, which is why I believe self-esteem is tied to spirit and fosters inner-peace, and only when inner-peace is accomplished can world peace be achieved.”

Singer-songwriters are invited to submit one original verse to this year’s theme song, and it must be submitted in a cappella to honor the performance style of the honorary artists. The theme song was conceptualized and written by
Dr. K’s Music Therapy™ (aka Dr. Amelia Kemp) and commissioned specifically for this artist challenge, titled: Liberated To Be Me, with the goal of creating a ballad that awakens the unlimited potential of mankind to learn to love oneself. The final version of the song awaits the additional verses to be added by the participating song-writers. Once completed, all participating songwriters will be credited as contributing writers to the song, which is dedicated to the 45-year-legacy of Sweet Honey In The Rock. All participants receive awards for their humanitarian contribution to this global project, and will also be invited to perform their verses at the Annual UR2.Global Artist Retreat where Sweet Honey In The Rock are also invited to attend and hear the song in person and join in.
